Rhodia’s High performance silicas and industrial yarns for more sustainable applications at Expobor 2012

News release

Rhodia at Expobor Trade Show: Street F/G

São Paulo, April 11, 2012 - Rhodia, member of the Solvay Group, continues to expand its presence in the rubber markets, by showcasing a wide range of products and technological processes answering the sustainability needs, at Expobor 2012, from April 11-13, at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo (SP).

Zeosil®, and Zeosil Premium™ the benchmark ranges of Highly Dispersible Silica (HDS) from Rhodia are well established key components in providing better performing, safer and fuel-efficient tires worldwide. Zeosil® is also used in some other types of rubber applications such as shoe soles, and belt conveyor, providing reinforcement functions.

"We are constantly working with our customers to develop new applications for this high-performance silica, always combining the product’s high technology with the competitiveness needs of the sector. Our products, in addition to their environmental benefits related to reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, when applied to the tire tread, also allow production cost savings, especially those related to energy consumption," explains Luis Fernando Maida, director of the Global Business Unit (GBU) Rhodia Silica for Latin America.

“In the tire manufacturing industry, the use of Highly Dispersible Silica in the tread reduces rolling resistance and contributes to a decrease of up to 7% in fuel consumption, reducing equally the CO2 emissions”, concludes Luis Fernando Maida.

Industrial yarns and dipped fabrics - In polyamides, Rhodia Fibras will present at Expobor 2012 its full portfolio of industrial yarns and dipped fabrics, developed with the latest technology, which integrate polymerization, spinning and drawing in one single step.

The goal, says Renato Boaventura, industrial director at the GBU Rhodia Fibras, is to deliver to market a product with very high qualities, such as chemical adhesion, dimensional stability, mechanical strength, and excellent performance. "This technology integrated into the production process has another important benefit: it reduces energy consumption, creating sustainable products, which reinforces Rhodia's commitment to the environment," says Boaventura.

Rhodia’s industrial yarns and dripped fabrics, adds Boaventura, offer such features as high adhesion, fatigue resistance, durability, mechanical strength, dimensional stability, heat resistance, and high abrasion resistance. Due to these characteristics, these products are used in different markets, such as tires, conveyor belts and industrial sewing lines, among others.

Technical Presentation – On the Brazilian Congress of Rubber Technology, which occurs in parallel to the exhibition, Guilherme Brunetto, a specialist of Rhodia, will present on 12/4, at 16.50 in room Santana 2, a technical lecture about "Use of Silica in Dynamic Applications: Contribution to the reduction of energy consumption".
